  1. Sonic Runway

    November 20, 2017 - March 9, 2018 @ San Jose City Hall

    The City of San José Office of Cultural Affairs in collaboration with Burning Man Project present Sonic Runway by Rob Jensen and Warren Trezevant as the first artwork selected for the Playa to Paseo initiative. Sonic Runway is a light-art installation that visualizes the speed of sound. The artwork is 432 feet long and stretch across a city block between 4th and 5th streets in front of San José City Hall, 200 E. Santa Clara Street, San Jose, CA 95113. Sonic Runway converts audio signals into a pattern of lights that shoot down a corridor of arches at the speed of sound, (1235kph /767mph). Live audio input is analyzed and converted into intricate patterns that shoot down the corridor with sound and lights in sync. The artwork can be be viewed nightly from 5:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. through March 2018.

    February 15 - February 28 @ Various locations

    San Jose Jazz Winter Fest 2018 is the cool counterpart to the celebrated Summer Fest. Folks who attend the Fest will hear a mix of young artists pushing the envelope of jazz and R&B, as well as legends with fundamental straight-ahead chops. This two-week celebration features concerts, dance parties and more.

    Come celebrate the Year of the Dog at the Vietnamese Tet Festival at the Grand Century Mall on Story Road. The festival will be featuring live entertainment dancers, singers, carnival rides and games.

    February 16 - February 18 @ Eastridge Mall

    A Celebration of the Lunar New Year, the most traditional observed holiday for Vietnamese people. Join on one of the biggest Vietnamese New Year Festival in San Jose. The Vietnamese New Year will take place at Eastridge Mall and will feature live entertainment, lion and dragon dance, contests, carnival rides and games, food booths, and more.

    Join Douglas Rees, Award-Winning Author and SJPL Librarian, as he presents a special storytime featuring his recent published picture book, Tyrannosaurus Rex vs. Edna, the Very First Chicken, along with some of his personal favorite children books. Honors for Tyrannosaurus Rex vs. Edna, the Very First Chicken include a starred review from School Library Journal and inclusion on NPR's Best Books of 2017 list.
